It is necessary for your car to undergo regular maintenance, especially on the engine, if you want it to run properly for a long time. It is imperative that you keep a regular scheduled maintenance on your car’s transmission so as to prevent it from experiencing any problems in the future. Once you will be doing your regular engine maintenance, it is of note that you know that there are a few things which needs to be added or replaced on your engine. In this article, we are going to discover a few basic ways by which you can performe engine maintenance to ensure that your car will keep on running smoothly.

It doesn’t matter if you are using automatic or manual transmission, for both types of transmission it is imperative that you regularly change the oil together with the filter on the transmission. We can say that the transmission oil is like the lifeblood of the engine, so it is essential that it needs to be replaced from time to time. This can be achieved easily in just a few quick minutes.

The first thing which you should accomplish is the removal of the old oil from the engine by unplugging the drain plug located on the belly of the car. You need to utilize a socket wrench in order for you to unscrew the plug so that the oil may drain properly. After doing that, you can then replace the drain plug back.

Then, remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench. The oil filter is very distinguishable, because it looks like a black cylinder usually besides the engine located inside the hood of your vehicle. As soon as you find it, you need to coat the new oil filter opening with a little bit of oil so that it won’t get stuck as you place it on the mount. Afterwards, you can then place the new filter on the mount and ensure that you have screwed it tightly and ensuring as well that it will not go loose. After fitting the oil filter, you can then proceed with filling the engine with oil, by replacing the oil filler cap and pouring on your preferred oil on the engine.

And finally, a good idea will be to add some special finished products together with your transmission oil. Provisioning these products is very good for your transmission and it will extend the life of your transmission. You can also purchase and install a transmission cooler which will prevent your oil from heating too much and keeping it at the optimum temperature. You do this basically to make sure that your car’s transmission will be prevented from heating up too much and being damaged quickly.

So there you have some easy steps which you can do to ensure that you are taking proper care of your transmission. The main reason why you should accomplish these steps is to make sure that your transmission will work smoothly for a long time without being damaged. Otherwise, you will encounter problems which will lead you to spend more time and money getting your car fixed.

One of the most costly repairs on a car is the transmission. It is one of those things you hate hearing about in regards to repairing your car.So without question people are searching for methods to get their car to last longer.  Or they want to know if it is even possible. Like most things it is possible. You can do things that will help it last longer and that is by taking care of it.But here are some more things that are more specific in helping your transmission get more life.

First thing you will need to do is be sure to keep your fluids at the right level.  Just like everything in your car you want to keep your fluids right. But when you are talking about your transmission it is important to making it last longer.  Whenever a client takes there car in to the Oceanside transmission repair shop I run I always check their fluids.  I also recommend they always keep a close eye on their fluid levels. If they try to operate their car with low fluid levels they are going to ruin their transmission.Or it will not give them as much life as they want.

Second thing you have to know is that heat can hurt your transmission. So you are going to want to find ways to get your transmission to run cooler. One of the most effective way to accomplish that is by putting in some transmission cooler. You can find some easily at an auto parts dealer.  Of course when clients come and bring their cars in to our Escondido auto repair shop we add it in also.  This helps let the transmission run cooler.

Finally here is a simple one.Do not ever attempt to shift gears while the car is in motion.  You will be surprised at the number of people who ruin their cars by shifting gears while the car is moving.  I am not because we see it all the time in our Oceanside auto repair shop.People will have their cars brought in and they will have ruined transmissions because of this very thing.

How to check your transmission at home

September 12th, 2009 Posted by amawriter in Insurance info

One of the most costly repairs you can have for your car is the transmission.  It is a big part of your car.Making sure to care for it is important.By doing some maintenance on your car you will end up saving a lot of money.  Since you can’t fix it yourself here are some ways to check it at home.By having some of the checking done at home you can see if it needs to be brought in.

First off since I own a Escondido auto repair shop I know how expensive transmission repairs can be.  So I always tell my clients to check a couple of things first. This way you can verify if it has a need to be taken in.First thing they can check is the fluid. The fluid has to be clear.  If it is black or dark that is a sign of a problem and they need to take their car in.

Another thing they can check is to see if the gear shifts normally.  You do this by moving your gear from park to drive.Or you can shift it from park to reverse.  What you are looking for is for the gears to shift smoothly.  You don’t want any jerking motion. If you notice that there is jerking, this is a bad sign that there is a problem with your transmission.  In my Oceanside transmission repair shop this is one of the big signs of transmission problems.Quite a few cars that are brought in have this problem.

Finallyl what you can check for is any leaks of your transmission fluid. This is something you can check with your dipstick. But you won’t know unless you perform this check regularly.  I advise all my customers in my Oceanside auto repair shop to always check your fluids.People know how to check for oil.  But they should also check their transmission fluid. This gives you the ability to tell if the fluid is leaking.

If you perform these steps on your car you are making sure your transmission stays in good condition.
